Our Occupational Hygiene Team provides quantitative and qualitative face fit test certification to ensure respiratory masks are close fitting and in compliance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations, and the Control of Asbestos Regulations.

What is face fit testing?

A face fit test checks that respiratory protection equipment (full-face and half-face masks) fit the user’s face correctly. Testing ensures that all RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment) is fit for purpose and safe to use. A quantitative face fit test can be performed on any tight-fitting respirator.

How long does a face fit certificate last?

We recommend a re-test at least every 2 years, but if the mask is being used regularly as the primary method of protection, then every year is recommended.  A re-test may also be required if the wearer has significant weight changes, facial injuries, or major dental work.

Quantitative Face Fit testing (QNFT testing)

We provide Quantitative Face Fit Testing (QNFT Testing) which uses a particle counting machine that detects if airborne particles are passing into the mask via a break in the seal.

Usually, testing is conducted at the outset of mask selection so that the correct size can be purchased.

Face fit test certificate

We provide a face fit test certificate “pass” or “fail” and can conduct the testing on a variety of different types of masks, including half-face and full-face masks.

Once passed, the test is typically repeated every year or two depending on the risks involved and any changes to the body type or facial hair growth.
